Carter v. Interstate Realty

Mary Carter, et al. v. Interstate Realty Management Company, et al.- was tried in the Circuit Court of Coahoma County, Mississippi. A fire started in an apartment and spread upwards to the Carter apartment killing young Malik Carter. His aunt, Chanita Carter, the baby-sitter, who could not rescue this child, also filed a claim.

The verdict for the death of Malik Carter was $7,001,500.00 and the verdict for Chanita Carter, for “bystander” shock and fright was $500,000.00.
